The article analyzes the mechanisms existing in the legal system to combat trademark counterfeiting, as well as the increasing engagement by public authorities in tackling the issue. The article concludes that the local legal system provides a range of mechanisms both in the civil and criminal spheres, in addition to administrative procedures, which enable trademark owners to efficiently combat counterfeiting in the country, despite the territorial challenges and complex socioeconomic issues, and that the increase in the number of surveillance and enforcement operations reflects growing awareness by Brazilian authorities of the importance of the matter.
