The text demonstrates how technological innovation is closely related to a country’s economic and social development. It also addresses the way in which the benefits of technological progress for society have repercussions in different areas, including health, environment and education, in addition to the impact on job creation and on the increase in commercial competitiveness. In addition, it presents statistical comparisons between Brazil and countries that stand out in innovation, analyzing the amount of investment in Research and Development and in Intellectual Property, where patents indicate the level and quality of a country’s technological activity.
