News | The Madrid Protocol enters into force in Brazil today, October 2, 2019

On June 25, 2019, President Bolsonaro signed Brazil’s instrument of accession to the Madrid Protocol, which was submitted on July 2, 2019 by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Under the terms of the agreement, the Madrid Protocol comes into force internationally three months after the deposit of the accession term.
The main objective of the Madrid Protocol is to simplify trademark registration in the 104 participating countries, reducing costs and reducing bureaucracy. Thus, it encourages the expansion of the activity of Brazilian companies abroad and improves the business environment in Brazil.
