News | Brazilian Bar Association resumes measures to cancel registrations for “rapadura”

The International Relations Committee fo the Brazilian Bar Association will resume attempts to cancel trademark registrations for “rapadura”, granted to German company Rapunzel Naturkost AG. “Rapadura” (hard brown sugar cake) is a traditional Brazilian product linked to Northeastern culture.
The president of the Committee and ex-president of the Brazilian Bar, Roberto Busato, will contact the organizations that represent lawyers and attorneys in the U.S. and Germany, to request assistante on suits that have already been brought against the trademark registrations. The German company has filed for such registrations in Germany since 1989, and in the U.S. since 1996.
