News | Court of Appeals of Santa Catarina decides on copyrights during Oktoberfest

On Oct. 5, 2007, the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina (TJ-SC), Brazil, that copyrights are valid, regardless of earned or intended amounts, whereas the performance of the protected work is enough for validation.
Based on said understanding, the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina decided that the Foundation for the Promotion of Exhibits of Blumenau – PROEB, effect a Court deposit of R$ 126,698,81 as a bond value, in the lawsuit filed by the Brazilian Central Office for Collection and Distribution – ECAD.
The object of the lawsuit is to collect copyright amounts over the performance of intellectual works during Oktoberfest 2007 (Lawsuit no. 2007.047343-1 – Interlocutory Appeal).
